Manikaran is a small pilgrimage town in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, set at 1,760 metres along the Parvati river — a fast-flowing glacial tributary of the Beas. The Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara is a deeply sacred site in Sikh tradition, associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji's visit to the Parvati valley during his travels. The Gurudwara's langar (community kitchen) cooks rice and dal in the natural hot spring water that flows beneath the complex — a practice believed to hold spiritual significance. Kheerganga (2,960 m) is one of the most popular treks in Himachal Pradesh — a 11 km one-way trail from Barshaini village (beyond Manikaran) through dense forest and river crossings to a high meadow with natural hot spring pools at the summit. The trek takes 4–5 hours one-way and the reward — a soak in a mountain hot spring pool at nearly 3,000 metres with views of the surrounding snow peaks — is extraordinary. Camping at Kheerganga is available. The trek is best from May to November and is closed in winter due to snow.
Kullu town and the Kullu valley — 35 km from Manikaran via Bhuntar — are famous for the annual Kullu Dussehra festival (October), one of the largest traditional fairs in HP, with over 200 local deities brought in procession to the Dhalpur ground. The Kullu valley is also known for its apple orchards, the Beas river, and traditional Kullu shawl weaving — distinctive woollen textiles in bold patterns sold in markets throughout the valley. The Bijli Mahadev temple, perched on a hilltop above Kullu with panoramic valley views, is a notable day trip.
