Nestled in a narrow valley on the Nainital–Almora road at a point where the road makes two sharp bends — "kainchi" meaning scissors in Hindi, referring to these double turns — Kainchi Dham is the most beloved spiritual retreat of Neem Karoli Baba (also known as Neeb Karori Baba or Maharaj-ji). The ashram was established in the 1960s on the banks of the Kosi river, surrounded by forested hills of the Kumaon Himalayas, and quickly became one of the most powerful spiritual centres in India.
Neem Karoli Baba was a saint and devotee of Lord Hanuman, revered for his extraordinary spiritual gifts, his unconditional love for all who came to him, and his miraculous deeds that drew devotees from across India and the world.
