Solang Valley is one of the most visited and visually spectacular destinations in all of Himachal Pradesh — a wide, glacier-fed valley opening out at approximately 2,480 metres, situated 14 km north of Manali town on the road toward the Atal Tunnel and Lahaul-Spiti. The valley is surrounded on three sides by snow-covered peaks, with the Beas Kund glacier above and the Beas river running below, creating a natural amphitheatre of Himalayan mountain scenery that draws visitors year-round.
In winter (December to March), Solang Valley transforms into a snow playground — India's most accessible ski slope for beginners, with deep snow on the valley floor and slopes available for skiing and snowboarding through the Himachal Pradesh government's winter sports infrastructure. Snow tubing, sledging, and snowmobile rides make it a favourite for Delhi families during Christmas, New Year, and February school holidays.
In summer and autumn (April to November), the valley offers paragliding — with trained operators launching from a dedicated ridge above the valley — as well as zorbing, quad biking, and trekking toward Beas Kund. The summer months also see Solang become a gateway to the newly opened Atal Tunnel, which connects the Kullu valley to Lahaul-Spiti and has dramatically improved access to the high altitude Spiti valley.
Solang Valley is 14 km beyond Manali on the same road — so any Manali trip naturally passes through it. We provide full cab packages from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dehradun covering the Manali–Solang Valley corridor with experienced Himalayan highway drivers who know every section of the NH-44 / NH-3 Manali highway route.
Solang Valley is 14 km beyond Manali on the Atal Tunnel road. The cab drives directly to the valley floor. Routes available from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dehradun.
The Chandigarh–Manali stretch (NH-3) passes through Mandi and Kullu, with a scenic but winding river valley section from Kullu to Manali (~90 km). Drive time from Chandigarh to Manali is typically 7–9 hours. Rohtang Pass/Atal Tunnel approach begins immediately after Solang Valley.
From Delhi, Solang Valley is best reached over 2 days with a Chandigarh overnight stop. Here is a practical itinerary for a 4-day Delhi–Solang–Manali trip.
Depart Delhi early morning (5–6 AM). Drive via NH-44 through Ambala to Chandigarh (~250 km, 4.5–5.5 hours). Rest at Chandigarh — explore Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, or Rose Garden if time permits. Early dinner and overnight at Chandigarh.
Very early departure (4–5 AM) from Chandigarh. Drive via Bilaspur, Mandi, and Kullu through the Beas river valley (~315 km, 7–9 hours). Arrive Manali by afternoon. Continue 14 km to Solang Valley for an evening walk or activity. Overnight at Manali or Solang Valley resort.
Full day at Solang Valley — snow activities in winter, paragliding and zorbing in summer. In summer, extend the day through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu in Lahaul for a short Lahaul valley experience (30 km beyond Solang). Return to Manali for evening Mall Road and Hidimba Devi Temple visit.
Early morning departure from Manali (3–4 AM). Drive to Chandigarh (7–9 hours) and continue to Delhi (4.5 hours). Arrive Delhi by evening. Total return drive ~511 km in 12–14 hours.
Solang Valley is India's most accessible ski destination — the HP government runs a ski school with beginner and intermediate slopes on the upper valley. Snow tubing, sledging, and snowmobile rides are available for families and non-skiers. Equipment rental available on-site. The valley typically receives deep snow from mid-December to early March.
Solang Valley is one of the best paragliding spots in Himachal Pradesh — experienced operators launch from a ridge above the valley with breathtaking views of the Beas river valley, Manali town, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Tandem flights with certified pilots available for all experience levels. Best season April to June and September to October.
The wide, flat valley floor at Solang is perfect for zorbing — rolling downhill inside a giant transparent sphere — and quad biking on open terrain. These activities run throughout the warmer months (May to October) and are popular with families and groups. Operators are present at the valley entrance throughout the day.
The 3-day Beas Kund trek begins at Solang Valley and climbs through alpine meadows to a high-altitude glacial lake at approximately 3,700 metres — the source lake that feeds the Beas river. One of the most rewarding beginner treks in the Kullu region, best done June to September. Camping equipment and guides available in Manali.
The Atal Tunnel — at 9.2 km the longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet in the world — connects the Kullu valley to Lahaul-Spiti and has made Lahaul accessible year-round. The South Portal is just 5 km beyond Solang Valley on the same road. Driving through the tunnel to Sissu in Lahaul is a memorable experience in itself.
Manali town is just 14 km from Solang Valley on the same road. Old Manali's cafes and guesthouses, Hadimba Devi Temple (in its deodar cedar forest), Manu Temple, Vashisht village and hot springs, and Manali Mall Road are all easy half-day additions from a Solang Valley base.
