Solang Valley — Manali's Adventure Hub

Solang Valley is one of the most visited and visually spectacular destinations in all of Himachal Pradesh — a wide, glacier-fed valley opening out at approximately 2,480 metres, situated 14 km north of Manali town on the road toward the Atal Tunnel and Lahaul-Spiti. The valley is surrounded on three sides by snow-covered peaks, with the Beas Kund glacier above and the Beas river running below, creating a natural amphitheatre of Himalayan mountain scenery that draws visitors year-round.

In winter (December to March), Solang Valley transforms into a snow playground — India's most accessible ski slope for beginners, with deep snow on the valley floor and slopes available for skiing and snowboarding through the Himachal Pradesh government's winter sports infrastructure. Snow tubing, sledging, and snowmobile rides make it a favourite for Delhi families during Christmas, New Year, and February school holidays.

In summer and autumn (April to November), the valley offers paragliding — with trained operators launching from a dedicated ridge above the valley — as well as zorbing, quad biking, and trekking toward Beas Kund. The summer months also see Solang become a gateway to the newly opened Atal Tunnel, which connects the Kullu valley to Lahaul-Spiti and has dramatically improved access to the high altitude Spiti valley.

Solang Valley is 14 km beyond Manali on the same road — so any Manali trip naturally passes through it. We provide full cab packages from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dehradun covering the Manali–Solang Valley corridor with experienced Himalayan highway drivers who know every section of the NH-44 / NH-3 Manali highway route.

Frequently Asked Questions — Solang Valley Taxi Service

How far is Solang Valley from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dehradun?
Solang Valley is approximately 511 km from Delhi (12–15 hours, best split over 2 days), approximately 315 km from Chandigarh (7–9 hours), and approximately 465 km from Dehradun (11–13 hours). Solang Valley itself is 14 km north of Manali town on the Atal Tunnel road, reached in 30–40 minutes from Manali.
What is the best time to visit Solang Valley for snow activities?
December to March is the prime snow season at Solang Valley. The valley receives its deepest snowfall from mid-December to mid-February. January and February are the coldest months (temperatures drop well below 0°C at night) but also offer the most reliable snow for skiing and snow activities. The Christmas and New Year week, and the February school holiday break, are the most popular — book your cab well in advance for these periods as Manali gets extremely busy.
What activities are available at Solang Valley in summer?
Summer at Solang Valley (May to October) offers paragliding (tandem flights with certified pilots from the valley ridge), zorbing (rolling downhill in a transparent sphere), quad biking, and the Beas Kund trekking trailhead. In summer, the road beyond Solang to the Atal Tunnel and Lahaul is open — making it easy to combine a Solang Valley visit with a drive through the tunnel to Sissu in Lahaul for dramatically different high-altitude landscape.
Do we need snow chains or special tyres for Solang Valley in winter?
In winter (December to March), the Manali–Solang Valley road can be snow-covered or ice-compressed. Our vehicles are equipped or fitted with snow chains when required. The Himachal Pradesh traffic police may require proof of snow chains at checkposts during heavy snowfall periods. Our drivers are experienced in winter driving on this stretch and carry chains as a standard precaution for winter Manali trips.
Can we visit the Atal Tunnel on the same trip as Solang Valley?
Yes — and this is highly recommended. The Atal Tunnel's South Portal is just 5 km beyond Solang Valley on the same road. A drive through the 9.2 km tunnel to Sissu in Lahaul takes about 15 minutes and brings you into a completely different landscape — the stark, high-altitude Lahaul valley. In summer, Lahaul's Sissu waterfalls and the drive along the Chandra river toward Keylong are stunning. The tunnel is open year-round (unlike the old Rohtang Pass which was seasonal).
What is the road like from Chandigarh to Manali?
The Chandigarh–Manali route (approximately 315 km on NH-3 via Bilaspur and Mandi) takes 7 to 9 hours. From Chandigarh to Bilaspur, the road is relatively straightforward. From Bilaspur to Mandi and onwards through Kullu to Manali, the road follows the Beas river valley — scenic but winding and narrow in places, especially the 90 km stretch from Kullu to Manali. Overtaking is common and the road can be slow in peak season (May–June, December–January). An early departure is always advised.
Can we combine Solang Valley with Rohtang Pass?
Rohtang Pass (the old pass above Solang Valley at 3,978 metres) is a separate experience from the Atal Tunnel. Access to Rohtang Pass top for tourists requires a permit from the Himachal Pradesh government (available through the online HP Tourism portal or in Manali). The pass is open from approximately June to October for tourist vehicles. In winter, only the Atal Tunnel (bypassing Rohtang) is open. If visiting in summer, we can arrange the Rohtang permit process as part of your trip planning.
